Keep in mind that we are close to the equator, which allows a fairly stable temperature near 25° C (77° F) throughout the year.

The stations are ranked based on rainfall, finding rainy, wet or green stations and dry season.

There is no better or worse season for safari. Aspects to consider when planning the timeframe of a safari include tourism density, time of migration, calving season, dry and dusty landscape, green landscape, and ease of wildlife watching when vegetation is lower (dry season).

Whatever time is chosen the explosion of wildlife will leave you amazed and astonished.

As a guide, these are the main times we consider:

January through February (short dry season)

  • The period between the end of the year rains and March.
  • Temperatures are warm.
  • It is a period of low tourism density when you can enjoy more greenery and the time of offspring delivery.

March through May (rainy season, “long rains”)

  • The landscape is verdant and tourism sparse.
  • The rains make certain terrain impassable, but most aspects of a safari can proceed normally.
  • Rainfall can be unpredictable and often occurs predominantly overnight and is short-lived.
  • You can assume that certain areas of the parks will be inaccessible.
  • Temperatures are warm.
  • Generally considered a low season and therefore offers cheaper prices.

June through October (dry season)

  • Cooler temperatures need to be considered because in the night hours the temperature may drop to 5°C (41° F) in Ngorongoro Crater. It is therefore recommended that travelers bring warm clothing.
  • There is excellent visibility of large herbivores and carnivores since the lack of vegetation allows wildlife to be located and observed more easily.
  • It is the highest tourism season.

November through December (short rains)

  • The temperatures begin to rise and the savannah begins to give way to green, with more wetlands and less dusty roads.
